Rock shares the goal with Maine Winter Sports Center (MWSC) of
re-establishing skiing as a way of life in Aroostook County. Big Rock
is achieving these goals by introducing school and community based
programs designed to include any person seeking to be involved in
outdoor, winter time recreation.
- Established
in the 1960's, Big Rock Ski Area was purchased in 2000 by the Maine
Winter Sports Center (MWSC) through grants available from the Portland,
Maine - based Libra Foundation. Libra has a long-term
commitment to the development and promotion of winter sports in
northern Maine, and has overseen the creation of a cross-country ski
and biathlon complex in the towns of Ft.Kent
and Presque Isle.
